The astonishing feat takes place in a local swimming pool near Reykjavik to the delight of the babies' parents. STORYLINE : At this swimming pool, instructor Snorri Magnusson's young pupils are performing remarkably for their age. Thanks to his techniques, babies as young as 3.5 months old are able to stand unaided. Usually this doesn't happen until around nine or ten months old. Magnusson became Iceland's first baby swimming instructor in 1990 and he's been perfecting his unusal methods since then. Babies attending this course take a twice weekly, twelve-week one hour swimming class. Soon most of the young students are able to stand, either balancing in...

There are many amazing things to do in Iceland but these were five that I felt were crucial. I'll list them in more detail below. #1. Gulfoss and Seljalandsfoss: These are two of Iceland's most famous waterfalls. You can see Gulfoss if you go on any Golden Circle tour. It's about an hour away from the city of Reykjavik. You can also see it on your own if you rent a car. Seljalandsfoss is a bit farther away. About two hours away from Reykjavik and you would have definitely rent a car. #2. Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon: This lagoon is made up of glacier shards that have fallen from Vatnajökull, Iceland's biggest glacier. This place should definitely be on your bucket list. It's a four hour drive from Reykjavik but it is worth it. #3. Go on a road trip!: Iceland has one main road, t...

Blue Lagoon Iceland is a hot spring spa situated between Keflavik airport and Reykjavik. It only takes 20 minutes to drive there from Reykjavik. Don’t worry if you got all of your luggage with you, there is a secure luggage storage for you there for a low price. The lagoon is a magical bathing spot in the middle of the lava and it is full of silica mud and other minerals that are considered healthy for your skin. All the Blue Lagoon products are sold in a shop inside the service building and it’s a great idea to take a little bit of the experience with you in a bottle or to buy it as a gift for your friends and family at home. Don’t forget to try out the sauna and steam bath which is located next to the waterfall inside the lava cave. The water in the Blue Lagoon Iceland comes from a geothermal power plant which is situated next to the lagoon so it is a man made lagoon. The ingredients in the silica mud comes from the deep root of the volcanic earth. If you want to treat yourself and spend some money you can get an in water massage, an exclusive lounge where you’ll get a VIP treatment or get you something to eat at the Lava restaurant. There is also a luxury hotel situated a few hundred meters away from the lagoon where you can spend the night and take a bath in a small but privet lagoon. It’s an great idea to spend some time walking around and take some great pictures of the landscape next to the main building but be sure to walk on the footpaths because it’s easy to get lost in the lava or get hurt if you fall in all that rocks. We also recommend going to the viewing platform to take some pictures over the lagoon. Book your tour to the Blue Lagoon here: https://guidetoiceland.is/process/tou... As you might have learned from our webisode about Icelandic elves (watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRvVmY5Vr98), many Icelanders have a certain respect for fairies, elves, trolls and other "nature spirits." To that end, when planning the construction of the hotel, the Blue Lagoon consulted an elf medium who communicated with the supernatural creatures and ensured that it was safe to build the Blue Lagoon hotel on their turf. Thankfully, for all of us, the elves gave their stamp of approval. For more awesome adventures in Iceland and beyond subscribe to my channel. Planning a trip to the Blue Lagoon? I thought I would pamper myself with a Barber Shop Cut Throat Shave from a professional rather than my own butcher job that I normally perform. With permission I filmed the whole procedure for you, 20 minutes reduced with some video magic down to just 6 minutes. The face massage actually caused some bruising around the eye brows. He was savage at times but I felt invigorated afterwards. All this for just $2 plus a $2 tip for allowing me to film.

(16 Jul 2017) LEADIN An Icelandic developmental therapist is helping babies less than four months old to stand on their own. Soon most of the young students are able to stand, either balancing in Magnusson's hands or on top of a corkboard. Magnusson says the secret is strengthening the babies' spine and upper bodies. "The parents are always very surprised. Really surprised by what their babies are able to do. But it always starts with the straight training. So when the kids come first they have homework to do in order to strengthen their spine. Because when there is strength in the spine and the upper body you can do whatever. And also the babies are sometimes the first to start talking, to start smiling. We work with that during the class." Earlier this year Magnusson teamed up with professor of neuropsychology Hermundur Sigmundsson from the the Norwegian University of Science and Technology to carry out an official study on what goes on during the classes. Sigmundsson's results were published earlier this year in the peer-reviewed journal 'Frontiers in Psychology'. 11 out of the 12 babies who participated were able to stand up without assistance for at least 15 seconds by the end of the 12 week course. The remaining baby only managed to stand for about eight seconds. The average age of the children was 4.3 months, with the youngest only 3.6 months old. The babies do warm up exercises assisted by their parents, in which they are encouraged to reach for,and grasp objects. The children are then handed to Magnusson, who helps them follow a somersault routine on top of a floating mattress. What follows then is something that turns the therapist into a sort of "baby whisperer" when he places the baby on top of his palm and the baby stands on his or her own. For the next few seconds it's an exercise of balancing and standing. The results of the research indicate that babies don't forget what they are learning. So once the babies learn how to stand they are able to repeat the skill. So practice seems to work even for the youngest among us. Magnusson insists that rather than simply teaching them how to swim, what he does is work on the motor development of the babies' brain. "I am not here teaching babies how to swim. I am working with their motor development. Working with their balance. That is the foundation of my work. I am not teaching them how to swim." This time around there are 15 babies in total in the class. Three of them are between 6 and 8 months old. Ten are under 5 months old and two are only 3.5 months old. The ten youngest babies have been taking classes for just a month. The babies stand up on top of Magnusson's hand for about 4-6 seconds, up to 15-20 seconds each time. And in each and every class they stand up about 4 times for a total time of 1 to 2 minutes. Not long enough to pose any risk on their hips and legs, according to Magnusson. They have also been doing strength training, by laying on their stomachs to strengthen their spine as they lift their heads. Magnusson emphasises that parents shouldn't try this at home but only during the classes. Purchasing service from a prostitute is illegal in Iceland. Strip clubs and printed porn have also been banned. Now the government led by a feminist lesbian ruler is thinking about banning all internet pornography as well. Iceland may join the likes of Saudi Arabia in banning pornography. http://www.icenews.is/2013/11/22/reykjavik-police-shut-another-hookers-club/ http://www.icelandreview.com/icelandreview/daily_news/Big_Sister_Watches_Buyers_of_Prostitution_in_Iceland_0_383393.news.aspx http://grapevine.is/News/ReadArticle/Big-Sister-Documents-Inadmissable http://grapevine.is/News/ReadArticle/Big-Sister-Sends-Out-Tips-For-Spotting-Illegal-Massage

#3. Go on a road trip!: Iceland has one main road, the Circle Road, and along the way you can see many volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls, and geothermal lagoons. By going on a road trip you can experience more of what Iceland has to offer. #4. Snowmobiling on a glacier: The easiest way to do this is by going on a Golden Circle tour with an added excursion to Langjökull, Iceland's second largest glacier. There you can snowmobile atop the glacier and have the experience of a lifetime! #5 The Blue Lagoon: This has become Iceland's most famous attraction and it does not disappoint. This geothermal lagoon is beautiful, relaxing, and has a bar with delicious drinks. You can get a massage on the water or settle for a complementary mud mask. Either way, you'll leave feeling refreshed.
